You can visit most vineyards in Catalonia without prior appointment, just drop in, especially on summer weekends before the harvest starts. The vineyards marked on the map are the “Ruta del Vi de l’Empordà”
In April in Girona there’s a wine festival called VIVID – check their website for dates and locations.
Within a short drive from Villa CP you can find hundreds of smaller vineyards. Our map is really just a starting point.
Catalonia has vineyards in beautiful locations by the sea, on the steepest slopes of the Costa Brava, and on the hillsides of El Priorat, inaccessible to machines and where harvesting is still done by hand. From the Pyrenees to the ports of Tortosa and Beseit, vines thrive on an enormous range of different terrains. Wines from our 12 denominations of origin are recognised as being among the best in the world, as is our cava.
Villa CP is located in the Empordà wine region. As you approach the house you will see the vines that belong to our neighbours, in the fields that you pass by the little church, which are part of the Denominación de Orígen Empordà. They are mostly Garnatxa (Grenache) and Syrah varieties. Elsewhere in the region you will come across these and other varieties.
In Palafrugell there’s a huge wine warehouse called GRAU – they have everything
Wine route of Empordà – here you will find all kinds of information about wines in the region, updated by the tourist authority, including addresses and phone numbers.
The nearby village of Cruïlles has a bio-dynamic winery called Sota els Angels, well worth a visit, but they like you to phone ahead to make an appointment. It’s about a 20 minute drive from Villa CP. Their wines have been rated 90 by Parker and receive regular awards and media praise. One option could be to visit them for an aperitif and then go on for a fantastic lunch at Bo.Tic just outside la Bisbal, or perhaps browse the shops with antiques and ceramics that line the main street of la Bisbal.
South of Barcelona is the Penedes region (their website is here, lots of information). Here you will find gently rolling slopes producing white wines, red wines and of course… cava.
Buying wines near Villa CP
You can buy wines at all the local vineyards. In Girona, buy at el Corte Ingles (Hipercor) or the delicatessen el Petit Paradis next to the railway station.
Grau in Palafrugell, 30 minutes from Villa CP, is a very big wine warehouse with just about everything. Including a shipping service 😉
Or venture a little further, south of Tarragona, down to the Priorat, Montsant, Conca de Barberá and Terra Alta regions. It’s about a 1-hour drive from Villa CP to the Penedés, about 2 hours to Priorat, 3 hours to Terra Alta.
